The 3 Trips You Must Take

Most mortals have a limited number of places they get to visit and are not able to see all the wonderful places on our beautiful planet. So, we have to prioritize. In this post, we’ll discuss the three urban destinations you should not miss. One is in Asia, one is in North America and one is in Europe. There are many more (urban and not urban, of course) but you have to start somewhere… Tokyo The Japanese capital is without a doubt a very big city. In fact, more than 30 million people live in the metropolitan area. It’s best to take a few extra days of vacation here, since you’ll definitely need more than a weekend to see it all. Tokyo is the main financial center of Asia and the headquarters of many international companies, especially those in the electronics sector. Most of the population is Buddhist, so there numerous Buddhist temples in the capital and surrounding areas to visit. There are also a variety of museums and theaters offering something unique. And, of course, you cannot visit the Japanese capital without sampling some delicious dishes such as udon, tempura or sushi. New York It’s called the capital of the world or the city that never sleeps. Whatever the case, New York doesn’t need a lot of adjectives. It is the city par excellence. You absolutely must visit at some point in your life to walk the streets among the enormous skyscrapers, go to the top of the Empire State Building, visit the Statue of Liberty, and stroll through Central Park. Manhattan is so diverse it’s like you’re... read more

6 Things You Don’t Want to Have Happen on Vacation

Missing out on the best There’s always that friend who’ll say: “You didn’t go to that restaurant near the Fontana di Trevi? Well you missed out on the best in Rome.” To avoid this, it is best to ask your friends in advance where they would recommend that you go. You can also check travel blogs (like this one!) or seek advice from friends or acquaintances living where you are going. Standing in long lines When you visit a city, you should do the research in advance, so that you know which events you want to attend and which museums you want to visit. Lots of places offer ticket sales, and sometimes even discounts for advance purchases. Take note of the opening times to get there first and avoid the long lines that can form at peak times. Blisters on your first day Before you pack think about how you will be spending the holidays. Are you going to be relaxing at the pool or will you be going on excursions or visiting cities on foot? In case of the latter, make sure you bring your most comfortable shoes. And don’t buy new shoes a week before your trip. To ensure that you are well equipped for walking, take along your everyday shoes. Being robbed “Think wrong and be right.” This is what you need to remember while traveling, especially in crowded places. We don’t want to be alarmists, but to make the most of your trip and avoid being robbed, you must always be very conscious of your handbags and luggage. Hide more valuable objects and money in... read more

Berlin from A to Z – Part I

A – Alexanderplatz. The heart of the city, this square was named in honor of Tsar Alexander I in 1805, which is when he visited the city. The train and metro station is one of the busiest on its square you’ll find the World Clock and TV Tower as well as several shops and restaurants. Locals refer to as ‘Alex’. B – Brandenburger Tor. The Brandenburg Gate is probably the most iconic landmark of the city. It was built in the late 18th century by the Prussian King Friedrich Wilhelm II as a symbol of peace. Today it is a place of celebration for modern-day Berliners, from the fall of the Wall to the New Year. C – Currywurst. Don’t leave Berlin without having tried currywurst, a grilled sausage that is cut into pieces and served with ketchup topped with curry powder, sometimes eaten with a roll. They sell it in several places at stands on the street so you can eat it on the go. D – Division. Berlin was a city divided by a wall for 38 years, during which West Berlin was part of capitalist West Germany and East Berlin was part of communist East Germany. The wall erected in 1961 divided families and friends for nearly four decades, during which time it was difficult or impossible to visit one another. E – East Side Gallery. It is the name given to a part of the Berlin Wall that is still standing. It’s called ´gallery´ because the wall itself is decorated with artistic works by a variety of artists. A must-see stop. F – Fernsehturm. Which... read more
