Arctic Monkeys in Barcelona
Girls, on February 6 we are all going to the Sant Jordi Club to see the amazing Arctic Monkeys. This band from Sheffield returns to make you shiver with emotion. I remember when I first heard the Arctic Monkeys and the whole vibe that remained from the Nu-Rock Revolution, Strokes, Interpol, White Stripes and other American herbs. However, my beloved band by Alex Turner has continued playing with grace and some “originality” while others have gone off. I think of Doherty and the Libertines as well, and remember seeing them live thinking they were everything. The purpose of the tour is to promote their latest album Humbug (2009), an album full of their signature guitar sound and Turner‘s voice that made us dance. “The Jeweller´s Hands” is still one of my favorites; sexy and slow, I still get to the shower listening to it on repeat. The Arctic Monkeys sound much more post punk than their contemporaries, maybe that´s because of the raw production of their music and of course the incredibly sexy bedroom voice of lead singer Alex. Arctic Monkeys will also be in Benicassim this year with Primal Scream amongst others, but Benicassim, like the Nu-Rock, has become old news, which has more to do with drugs and party than with music. Look, I´m not a saint but I go to these events for the music. May only the British survive? SISTER RAY So darling, rent apartments in Barcelona and do not miss this concert. Fasten the suspender belt and come with me. Translated by: salome... read moreBand of Horses live in Paris
Band of Horses is a band that promotes indie folk rock music with a sound characteristic of the South of the US. The group was born in 2004 in Seattle created by Ben Bridwell and now, besides him, also Ryan Monroe, Tyler Ramsey, Bill Reynolds and Creighton Barrett are part of the group. The band started playing very quickly and soon caught the attention of both labels and fans but it was in 2006 when they submitted *Everything All the Time* with the original *line up*, which really managed to reach the mainstream. In his debut album the song “The Funeral” was included, which was used not only for different TV advertisements but also in TV shows, video games and movies. This made Band of Horses quickly become very famous and presented, for example, different television programs viewed by millions of people across the United States. Their second production was Cease To Begin, which also had a more than substantial success. To make this production, after being out of their town for months making presentations around the world, they decided to return to their hometown to live the life they had when they were not famous and to compose and produce as before. On May 18 they launched Infinite Arms, a production which are still releasing worldwide. This time the artists from Seattle will come to France to make a presentation at La Cigale on February 26. Else Lasker-Schüler was not only a great poet, but also a wonderful illustrator. Now the Hamburger Bahnhof museum in Berlin pays tribute to this amazing artist, especially focusing on her work as a draftswoman. Opened on January 21, 2011, the exhibition was designed in collaboration with the Frankfurt am Main Jewish Museum and will be open until May 1 of that year. And the thing is that the relationship Else Lasker-Schüler had with the German capital was always close. It was there where she published her first Expressionists poems in 1899, and where in 1903 she married the writer Georg Lewin, director of the legendary magazine “Der Sturm”, which began to be published since 1910. In her drawings you can clearly perceive the influence of Jugendstil, Expressionism, Futurism and Dada trends. But especially, artists such as Franz Marc, founder of the Blue Rider and close friend of Lasker-Schuler and Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, German Expressionist proponent of excellence. The exhibition will also have an interesting catalog that includes all the existing works of the artist, as well as some reports on it. And the thing is that even today, Else Lasker-Schüler is known as a prolific poet, but, in turn, has been completely excluded from the canon of art history. Therefore, this large retrospective at the Hamburger Bahnhof in Berlin serves as the institutional consecration of a forgotten artist, who, however, provided interesting painting proposals to the art world. We encourage you to travel to the German capital early this year, and though whispers say that the city loses its charm in the cold months, here we propose you to... read moreRANKINGS
